Recrutes.ca President Grant McCagg graduated from the journalism program in 1986 at Algonquin College, and for the past three decades has covered the game of hockey in one form or another as a reporter, editor, publisher, author and scout.
After publishing a hockey newspaper and magazine at the start of the Millenium, McCagg got involved in scouting as the founder and co-publisher of McKeen’s Draft Guide during the 2006-07 season, and since then, with the exception of a two-year period, co-published McKeen’s draft rankings and contributed writing, scouting reports and copious amounts of information from NHL scouts and junior GM’s and coaches.
In 2009 McCagg was hired to scout part-time for the Montreal Canadiens, and remained with the club until Bob Gainey’s departure in 2011. That same year McCagg joined TSN.ca as a consultant and profile writer for Bob McKenzie’s draft rankings, and then worked with the Hockey News as a draft consultant for the 2012 and 2013 drafts where he provided the draft rankings and contributed to the NHL Future Watch edition.
Seeing a dire need to provide francophone hockey fans with NHL draft coverage in the language of their choice, McCagg developed and organized a bilingual scouting service and website at the start of 2017, intent on providing all North American draft followers with in-depth analysis on all of the pertinent prospects.
