I would rather a $6-8M on a solid LD than Doughty or Karlsson. Those cap hits are just too much and we are strong on the right side already. I honestly think a Patch for McDonagh could be possible. Both similar cap hits, and McDonagh and Weber would be an absolute force, and we’d still have enough cap space to make a move for someone like Nuge

I’m curious to see what happens with the other “Karlsson”, pending UFA John Carlson. Washington might have to get creative in order to re-sign him, pretty tight against the cap, hoping the Habs consider making a pitch for his services.

That’s a great thought by you.

I like the Doughty trade idea… he would be an incredible acquisition. Maybe Karlson just needed more time to heel. Brendon Gallagher had a horrible season last year. Now that his hand is much better, he’s having a great season. I would rule out Karlson, but I would definitely want to have the option of picking one out of the 2. They are both incredible players.

Can’t see spending a huge amount on a RD, when we already have a lot of $ tied up in Weber. Better to spend that on a LD.
And on that goal by Schenn, yes the D both went to the boards…but Danault left his man (Schenn) and also went to the boards.
I agree with all your points on Schlemko – he looks very calm and has the ability to make the right play under pressure. Seems to also be comfortable playing either side.

Patch is such a frustrating player. I like the guy, I think he’s made great strides in his leadership since he first became captain, and he is capable of doing great things on the ice, but he’s so streaky it’s insane! The problem is that his down times are usually much longer than his up times and that really hurts the team in the long run. I don’t want him to be traded, I want him to figure out how to even himself out with his production. You’re right, when he’s bad, he’s bad all around, not just with scoring. How long do we give him though? It’s been like this for a while. I say if we can package him in a deal for Tavares or RNH, it might be the best move. And who would’ve thought we’d find ourselves in a predicament with too many good forwards in our lineup at the start of the season, the defense definitely needs to be the focus, maybe a Patch deal could help there also…
