McLean’s Pub Call Of The Wilde: Happy Anniversary

December 16, 2017

By Brian Wilde

It was billed as the 100th birthday of the NHL when the Habs met the Senators in the freezing cold of -18 degrees Celsius in Ottawa. What it really was though was a game both teams had to have for their playoff hopes.

As someone with a Asian (Pakistani) background, it is redundant to say “naan bread.” Naan is bread, so you’re basically saying, “bread bread.” That’s all I have, since I have nothing to say about the game 😉.

Just like ‘Jugo Juice’ is just saying juice juice.

Sorry Scherbak is not an NHLer, and nor are there any other blue chippers in Laval ready to come save the day.
Pretty obvious this team needs a rebuild. They will have to include new management because MB has no desire to do so – he still thinks if they squeak in ‘anything can happen’ but I prefer the odds of dominating the regular season as opposed to squeaking to have any hope of doing playoff damage.
    Gut it.

Every other team Habs are fighting with for playoff position got at least a point tonight, most of them got two. Not making the playoffs.

I was at the game and had a blast! It was all very well done with Corson, Theodore signing autographs, lots of interaction. Good music and an awesome atmosphere! Even with the cold the crowd was alive. Price was fantastic, especially early! However, other then a great rush by #11, the Habs were dead. No energy until it was 2-0. Whenever they entered the offensive zone, they threw away the puck. No urgency, no pulse. They were not playing as a team. Very disappointing as the rest of the evening was absolutely fantastic. Oh and the Sens were not that great either, very beatable if the Habs would push through to the net. The Habs made it easy for the Sens. Which is sad fir such a special game. I honestly expected more. It concerns me when an entire team struggles for urgency in such an important game on a big stage.

It’s getting harder and harder to get psyched to watch this team play hockey. Due to the mania surrounding The Last Jedi (which wasn’t quite as disappointing as the Habs tonight, but I’ll leave my review elsewhere) I’d all but tuned out anything Canadiens the past four days or so. I’d almost forgotten they had the outdoor game tonight. Tuesday would normally be one of the highlights of my calendar as I have gone to every game in Vancouver for the past four seasons. This year I can’t say I’m regretting my decision to not shell out $300 for my customary lower bowl seat for the game. And that makes me sad. But I would rather have that $300 and be bored at home watching them on the teevee.

Didn’t watch the game and from what you said Brian, I didn’t miss anything. For me, your key point is not only are they losing but they are a boring team to watch.

Brian, if you were at Price’s post game interview, I’d like to hear your comments, I found it very troubling and not a good sign about the current state of affairs with this club.

I would rather see de la rose playing than froese. And so many wingers in this organization. Get a centre, they are out there…….RNH, o’Reilly, someone?

I found that no one wanted the puck yesterday. And I’m not only talking when trying to take it from Sens, even when they had it! Something very bad is happening in this team right now, almost flashback from the “2 Randys” era!
