McLean’s Pub Call Of The Wilde: Niemi Gets The Call

February 15, 2018

By Brian Wilde

The Montreal Canadiens with a lot of scouts watching them tonight in Denver, Colorado. Who would have thought when the season began that this game would be big for the Avs and inconsequential for the Habs? That’s the truth though, as the real story is who on the Habs impressed the scouts in attendance.

A great read as always Brian, your honesty in reporting is the reason I subscribed in the first place and will continue to do so.

I know it’s outsode the scope a little but I’d have loved to read a COTW on the Canadian Women’s game tonight instead of another (no doubt painful for you to write) recap of another boring Habs game. Maybe a little break from the bleu blanc rouge in favour of some blanc rouge (and sometimes noir) coverage would be good for recharging the batteries?

Pacioretty’s stock is falling like Bitcoin’s. What a horrible time to stop being engaged. All I do is watch him to see through the eyes of the scouts and he is not battling, never mind producing – He has gone into pouting mode it seems. With all the winger options out there I think most people are gonna be very disappointed with the return…or even possibly MB just holding onto him for the time being – which would suck.

Those mad at some of the ice time ratios need to remember that Julien is probably playing some of the vets more, knowing that they are on the move.

Julien must be showcasing vet players, i bet if 67 got a hat trick he,d be traded hrs later. They know scouts are in the crowd and drag thier azz.
Let the dominos fall allready. Hoping to see insane huge trades.

Boring? I’m a “glass is half full” guy I guess. The pace of that game allowed me to get to bed early, guilt free!

Even worse than not scoring for Pacioretty is that he had 0 shots last night! 42 shots on Varlomov and not one by our great captain!!!

That was well said, Brian!! Hopefully once the trade deadline is over, they will play all those young guys you mentioned. It’s been boring for a while now… let’s be honest!

    Great stuff Brain..

    – Top 3 lines are starting to shine bright as of late. Too bad we didn’t see this in the beginning of the season.

    – The Markov effect is rubbing off on Petry . As he gets older his defensive play is getting better and better. Too bad it’s not having the same effect on Alzner.

    – I wouldn’t be surprised to see the younger guys get more ice time after the trade deadline. That’s when I think the official tanking will begin for the season. IMO

    Those are my 2 cents

Question Brian: When Weber comes back, put him on the second PP unit once in a while just to keep the opposition off balance?

No. He will be first unit I would think. They just need to not use just him. That gives them even more weapons

If MB can’t get good return on Max at trade deadline, I say keep him. You could get more for him during the summer when a team knows they can do a trade & sign deal.
