He’s been a bit of a polarizing figure in the scouting world, impressing some scouts more than others through the first few months of the season. Most seem to be coming around on him lately though as it’s hard to dislike his propensity for always being around the puck and to hold onto it when he gets it until he either makes a smart pass or takes a hard shot on net. Needs work on his skating, but his work ethic, anticipation and production are all making scouts take a hard look at him at the end of the first round.
NHL Scouts’ Comments
Nov. 2016 – I have no time for him, I don’t get this Robertson I must be missing the boat. Hard working kid with no mobility. He hasn’t made any plays for me.
Jan. 2017 – Stats do suggest he is top 60. I need to see him again to make a decision on his skating potential. Like him otherwise. He has a lot but needs to be pushed. Might be a mid rounder
Feb. 16, 2017 – He’s really really improved. He was a lot better than the last time I saw him. He’s like a dog on that puck. He’s strong on the puck..he can shoot. Skating is the concern. that’s what you’re looking for…players that get better in their development over the season. Hard to take the puck on him.
Mar. 4, 2017 – Robertson’s feet may never be great but will improve with strength. Should be at least adequate in the end.
Mar. 7, 2017 – He’s really weak at this point. After about 15 seconds into a shift you see his butt go up in the air and his legs are tiring out…he needs to get stronger. He’ll be a better skater than Gadjovich. He has a lot of options. That’s what throws everybody off..don’t know whether he’ll pass or shoot.
Mar. 27, 2017 – Has that drive…he’s going to get better and better.
