Drouin Opens His Heart And Wallet

Jonathan Drouin hasn’t scored yet for the Montreal Canadiens, but he’s already won the hearts of fans with a large donation to the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal. Drouin announced at CHUM that he will donate $500,000 over the next ten years. Additionally, Drouin will become the hospital’s ambassador and will spearhead raising $5 million dollars with a variety of initiatives.

Captain Max Pacioretty, former Habs great Serge Savard, and agent Allan Walsh were in attendance at the Tuesday afternoon news conference, along with the Canadiens’ director of communications Donald Beauchamp.

  • Can’t help but see the clear support for Drouin from Teammates – I remember when PK made the gesture, it was very lone-wolfesque, not a soul from Habs mgmt. There’s probably more to that story but there’s a clear grooming process with Drouin. They want him to be Lafleur 2.0

  • They are throwing everything at him, in order to succeed on and off the ice. He’s francophone and has massive potential. However, I think it’s too bad PK didn’t GT that kind of support from management and teammates

    • It was too bad that something was lost in all of that. I don’t know the politics of it, but I just focus on how amazing these two men are to give of their money and of their time. Well done. And it is wonderful to see you here Elisabeth.

  • The two situations (PKs and Drouins) we’re handled totally differently. PK seemed to do it on his own, which there’s nothing wrong with. Drouin has his agent, Max and the Habs behind him. Similar great outcomes, handled very differently. End result should be the only focus. Great job JD, and PK!

  • Is the difference between this and PK’s initiative here the presence of other notable Habs? For some reason I am thinking PK went it alone and this set the tone for the rest of his time in Montreal insofar as his relationship with the team was concerned…? Or am I mistaken?

    • Maybe. I heard all of that stuff. I never really went hard on it at all because dammit what an incredible gesture. I think we should just all praise that kind of gesture to the heavens. Good for PK. Good for Jonathan. Two amazing human beings to support this kind of endeavor. They’re wealthy sure, but the greatest gift when you are rich is your time.
