Brian Wilde has worked in hockey since he was 20. He was the rink side host for the Edmonton Oilers at CTV and Ottawa Senators for Sportsnet. He was also lead reporter on the Montreal Canadiens for 17 years at CTV Montreal.

Sadly, I believe you are correct. Even after the horrible start I felt wait until US Thanksgiving. It’s 6 days from now. This turkey looks done. And I did not subscribe for just good news B. For honest knowledgeable reports. Keep it up
Emil says
Thank you for the report Brian. Loosing both Radulov and Markov were a huge loss for the team. Very disappointed in Bergevin.
Andrew Hunter says
It is grim right now. That loss was embarrassing. But man, a real ass kicking of the leafs on saturday night would go a long way to making people feel a little better about this team. Go Habs
Curtis Traverse says
Absolutely unacceptable and embarrassing! It is shameful to be a habs fan right now Brian. To lose to the Coyotes at home in this fashion is ridiculous. Thank you for stating what everyone else is thinking
Elisabeth Di Niro says
I woke up this morning with these exact thoughts. There’s no way this team is making the playoffs with this weak defence. Weber is gonna be exhausted by the end of this season from all the minutes and hustling. Eric Engels was right when he said in your podcast that this defence is weak and that the canadiens would be in trouble.
Do you tank at this point? Like, what’s the plan? And secondly, will they fire Bergevin if they don’t make it to the playoffs? I’m actually a fan of his… but I don’t think Geoff Molson can keep him after the Therrien disaster 2 years ago, the terrible offseason he had and then no playoffs this year. That’s just my opinion.
Chris Michalec says
Appreciate your perspective, Brian! Let’s just hope the organization realizes that there isn’t any hope for this season.
Jennifer LaPoint says
I personally don’t think Bergevin had any plan B with the Markov situation. I think he thought Markov was a sure thing because of his history with the team and love of Montréal, being a Canadian citizen, etc. that he banked on that deal happening and now he is screwed because like you said in COTW, top 2 D are not available at this point in a season. Thankful Mete stepped up but he has now been demoted (whether a good idea or not can be debated another time) and probably won’t see the top line again this season, as he’s likely to be sent back to his junior team within the next month when we really have no shot at a playoff spot.
On another more positive note, any recrutes subscriber that is not pleased with the content is either too caught up in emotions of the bad season that is playing out or just not paying attention. You guys are doing a great job during some trying times to keep us informed, give us good insight, and hell even try to calm our emotions (whereas some not-to-be-named journalists may try to fuel them). It may not be what any of us want to hear but it certainly isn’t your fault! And if the season is all but over in December, maybe we can all just start talking about our greatest Habs memories to keep our spirits up 😊
Brian Wilde says
Thank you for the post Jennifer. It was rational and then it was kind. I appreciate it.
Jamey Lee says
I just can’t help but imagine how much better of a team we would be with Radu and Marky. I know it’s pointless but we would not be in this position now. Maybe we’ll get a top 5 pick this year if we’re lucky
Matt McKenna says
Loved this one, Brian. True to form, you’re a straight shooter.
While the content was great, I just want to comment on the professionalism. For whatever reason, your camera was drifting downward. Like a pro, you delivered while keeping yourself in the middle of the frame and upright. First-rate awareness and execution. I’m glad you went with that take!
Thanks for the hard work and the consistently good stuff.
Brian Wilde says
Hahaha. That was funny. It was slipping and I only had a couple seconds left to I just kept going. Good eye. Ha.
Michael Cordeiro says
Probably the saddest but true statement ever said about this team so far this year. Thanks Brian for sharing your thoughts .
Dale says
Brian, I felt this way over the past week and seeing the performance against Arizona cemented my feeling that this season is done for the Habs. This video is disheartening but true to form. I recently read an article done by The Hockey Writers on rebuilding the organization which was a great read. Putting emotions aside i’m starting to believe the Habs need a new vision/mission/philosophy and start a complete rebuild now. Thank you for your honesty even though it may feel you aren’t bringing us “good news”. Keep up the great work!
Miguel Cuya says
Brian, you have been pretty honest but it does not look good for the rest of the season.
Dire but accurate.
